Black Friday

This had to be a Black Friday to remember. After a day full of cooking and eating and of course, football.  Lauren and I headed to the new Outlets of Mississippe in Pearl.  WOW
There  were people everywhere, the closest parking I saw was over in Trustmark Park .  But we were lucky because we had a hotel room right beside the Outlet.( which meant we had a great parking spot).  We checked in and headed right out to start shopping. After about 3 hours of shopping in 26 degree weather we decided it was nap time. So we slept until 6:00, got up, dressed, then headed to Bass Pro. OMG I have never seen that many people in that store.  We decided the line was way too long so we left, we grabbed a quick breakfast and continued shopping. We bought decorations for Christmas, a few gifts, a few things for ourselves and had lots of FUN!  We ate a great lunch at Majestic Burger, mmmmmm. Then did our last bit of shopping at Renaissance Park. By three we were headed home 17 hours after we left. I napped about 30 minutes and then headed out to gat a few local deals.  Already making plans for next year!  Below are a picture from our hotel room and two of our room. BTW that was the biggest hotel room I have ever seen!
The parking lot at 11:00 pm  Crazy crowded

Fast forward to Fall!

Finally it's beginning to feel like fall. Last week I bought mums and pumpkins. The urns by the front door have burgundy mums and I have two hanging baskets of bronze mums in the back yard. I put six small bronze mums in the window boxes today, I'm not sure why I only bought six since I knew I would need twelve, go figure. Guess a trip to the nursery is on my agenda for tomorrow afternoon, after float prep time.  I hope the deer don't like mums as much as they did impatiens. They have eaten all my impatiens this summer. They must be very hungry this year, our English ivy looks like it got a haircut, my hanging baskets are nibbled to the nubs and one night one ( or more) brave deer ventured onto the patio to eat my sweet potato vine and broke the pot!  The deer and I may have a "come to Jesus meeting " soon if this doesn't stop!  I told Paul I wish he had a bow.. Hmmm.
I have a few other decorating ideas in mind too. Maybe next week while I'm out for fall break. Did I mention we are out of school Monday and Tuesday, then Nov. has Veterans Day ( professional day), a week for Thanksgiving, then it'll be Christmas!  Let the fun begin!

Fast Forward

Where has the time gone?  I really have meant to post more often but geez there are only so many hours in a day. Well the first nine weeks is over, I can't believe it. I have all my grades posted and I feel so much better. I have learned so much, I have never been an early riser but for some odd reason I now wake-up around 5:00-5:30 I wake up. No alarm, nothing. So strange. Ha!
Anyway things are going right along. No real problems. We have started out M-Star pilot evaluations. I was so nervous about it but the last few days I had a calm come over me. I'll just do my best and let the cards play out. Coming up this week is preparations for homecoming.  Actually homecoming is the next week but we are out that Monday and Tuesday ( insert happy dance) so we only have 3 days for spirit week!  Floats are being constructed this week.  I'm helping with the sophomores. Sweet group of kids. I'll try to remember to post pictures. See you soon.

School Days, School Days, Dear old golden rule days...

My life  is really going to change big time this week. I'm going from my office job back to the classroom.   I'll be teaching FCS at Warren Central.
Even though I have really worked getting the room ready, i have had LOTS of help from my awesome husband. I could have never done all of this without his help.   Thank you, Paul!!!
I also had help from a another person, my replacement at MDE. Thanks Nicki.
See if you can tell the difference.

Valentine's Day

I hope everyone had an awesome day yesterday. I know I did. I got home and Paul had a dozen red roses and a card. He was given instructions of No Candy! Ha!
The card contained a gift certificate for a massage. Oh I love a massage!!!!
I gave him 2 DVD's Taken 2 and Skyfall.
I also prepared a gourmet meal for us. At least as close to gourmet I can get.
Filet of beef tenderloin coated in finely ground coffee, cocoa and baked to a medium rare.
Soooo tender. I also served a salad of spring mix , fresh strawberries , pecans and shaved Parmesan cheese.
The sides were a farfelle pasta with artichoke quarters, and grated Parmesan and fresh asparagus, blanched and then shocked in ice water. Right before I served the plates I heated the asparagus in butter with a sprinkle of kosher salt and garlic.
Dessert was pecan pie on a plate drizzled with chocolate sauce and a fresh strawberry.

Great dinner

Hattiesburg Tornado

Paul's hometown was hit by a massive wedge tornado today. USM has extensive damage as well as Hattiesburg High and Oak Grove High. The pictures are so sad. Please pray for them.

Other Projects

You would think I had enough to do but I seem to keep finding more projects.
I also seem to be on a rooster theme. I found a lamp that belonged to my mother in law. I have had it for about 9 years and actually had someone " spruce " it up once but I never liked what she did so while I was painting the bathroom hardware I painted the lamp. Much better.
I also remembered I had a pair of roosters that Paul painted in cub scouts. They also needed a touch of paint. I am dangerous with a can of paint!! Ha!

Swapping around

Occasionally I get a wild idea to make changes around the house. Usually these are met with some reluctance from Paul. So when I mentioned that I would like to swap one of the downstairs bedrooms with the upstairs "bonus" room I was surprised he quickly agreed. Maybe it was because involved cleaning out. So I cleaned out 3 closets over the holidays which resulted in 7 large full trash bags!!!!
The upstairs room was intended to be a bedroom. It is a huge room with a full bath and a very big closet. in the past it has been the "boys" play room, weight room, and then my craft & sewing room. For the past few years it had really become a "JUNK" room. Soooo on MLK weekend I painted the upstairs room, first one side, where the bed would be set up. Once that side was ready we moved the bed upstairs, then the chest of drawers, and then the dresser. Please note this is 1980's heavy oak furniture! Once that was done we moved a small table and four chairs that had belonged to my grandparents down to the now empty bedroom. A small chest of drawers known in the family as the devil because the handles will not stay in the drawers, came downstairs also. Ugh! It will be refinished at a later date. Also many many boxes of craft and sewing "stuff". I then finished painting the upstairs room, including moving the world's heaviest entertainment center a mere 3 feet but it felt like a mile! Ha!
The next weekend I planned to paint the bathroom but the paint store was out of their most popular paint! Really? Yes! But I changed gears and decided to buy a storage cabinet for the new craft room so EVERYTHING would be put away nice and neatly. Once again I bought a very heavy cabinet that had to be assembled. Last weekend was the bathroom painting and cleaning. It's all set up now except for a few items that need to come downstairs.
I love the new setup. Kinda wonder why I never did this before. Here are a few pics of the bedroom and bathroom. I still need to "decorate".
